Worked on the 4th and have Friday off for a 3 day weekend. Raining AGAIN here ruining my detecting plans this morning so, I thought I would post this token I found a few weeks ago. I little large for a token, has the German word “LAND” in the middle which could translate to “Country, State or Territory”. Nothing on the reverse except the dots around the edge. I will soak it in olive oil for a few weeks and hope it cleans up better. I really like tokens.
The small 4 gm weight I found last Sunday has been positively IDed as a French Gold coin weight of King Louis XIV “The Sun King” who reigned from 1643-1715. Although, the weight itself could date from the mid 1600s to after the Kings death of 1715, probably the later. The fraction on the weight is 1/2, SONN=SUN, LOVI=LOUIS, DOR=Coin type. I wonder what it is worth? I now have 8-10 coin weights, some have been IDed, some not.
An example of a Gold coin from King Louis XIV, obverse, not a find. Note the Sun symbol above the King’s bust.
Reverse of the coin, wish I would have found this instead, LOL! Thanks to the guys who helped ID the weight. HH, Mike
