Today’s Treasure! 😍 xx

Wow, what a day! New field on the opposite side of the valley. We spent the morning having a look around as lots going on here. We have the Roman Road going thru, so went there first, but the grass was super long, and an electric fence running along it, so we came away and put it on the to do list when it’s been grazed off.

then wandered around, and realised we were in a shooting spot and spent the rest of the morning digging bullets As we tried to escape it! 😬. After lunch we drove over to the other side of the field… and yes, short grass, no fence and no bullets!

I found this amazing little lead face! Don’t know who was more surprised me to see him, or him to see me! Then himself found this chunky ring, it’s an inch across! Musket ball, capstan bullet that hit its mark, lead nail (?) some buttons, and 2 of the many bullets we found!

…. so a little bit of history, the Abbey is just below this field, which was built in 1162, in 1216 the Abbot was summoned to Newark Castle where King John lay dying. The Abbot heard the kings confession and following his death, king John’s heart was buried in the Abbey…. So finding the King John coin hammered on Friday is super special. The abbey was dissolved in 1538.

Update on ring… possibly a lombardic letter 'T'. Perhaps 15th-16th century and given the size maybe a thumb ring or to be worn over a glove.?? 🤔 ….

It is a Medieval Letter 'T', could be connected to the Shrine of Thomas Becket. Lead Ampulla's had the same style of letter on them. Of course it might mean something different.
The Lead Monk's face is fun & different, not sure what that would have attached to?
