Mia and I went to one of our hunting spots today to see if the little bit of rain we had brought any bottles out.... We found a lot of broken stuff and one odd little screwtop bottle marked "Mistol", plus a pair of pliers and a clay pipe stem. Detecting these piles is a huge pain, and I only managed one crummy zinc penny, and a bit of trash. We will be back though, I just need to figure out a better way to hunt the area.

This spot is a huge lot with piles of fresh dug dirt scattered all over, they have actually built the ground level up 4 or 5 feet in some areas and it's all full of old glass and pottery so I'm sure there have to be some good finds in there somewhere.....

Uh those piles do look like a pain.

Have you thought about setting up a sifter and sifting them? May be quicker and easier.

Good luck.

I thought about that, but a lot of it is big lumps of clay, and the rest like most of our dirt here is full of shells and bricks. Still might be worth a try though. I'm thinking about taking a potato rake to try to drag the piles down a bit, I know the city won't care as they are going to grade it all anyway. I just want to hit it before they do, last time I found way too many freshly broken bottles after the machinery left..... It was really a bummer.
