Today's new CW campsite finds.

We finally got together to hunt a new campsite that we got permission to hunt. I was thinking it was going to be a small field but boy was I wrong. There has to be at least 500 acres and most of it is open fields that gets tilled each year. Big break from hunting the woods of our other camp. Today I met up with Sham (Shamborelics) and Guy (Tnrelicman) to get an early start today. Our fourth member Mike (Woodland Detectors) had to cancel at the last minute and we really did miss hunting with him. My very first hole I dug was a nice 3 ringer. Within minutes all three of us had found bullets. Some parts of the field was very nice dirt but other parts was that wet Tennessee clay and made digging very tiring. We could only hunt part of the day and we all had some good finds. As we was leaving we met up with another hunter, whom I know very well, that has permission to hunt there as well. We had a very nice conversation with him before we left. My finds for the short hunt today was two drop 3 ringers, one fired 3 ringer, part of a brass shell casing (Sharps?), two buckles most likely for harness. And a beautiful brass saddle piece with a very nice green patina. Also found some odds and ends most likely scrap.

Having fun... Nice finds!

Re: Today's new CW campsite finds.

Wow, 500 acres! :o That should take a while.
Congrats on the recoveries. Get out there as much as possible before Mike shows up with his GPX and backhoe. :laughing9:

Re: Today's new CW campsite finds.

Good Hunt Randy and the brass saddle piece is a guard plate from a McClellan saddle and the bedroll and other items were tied to the saddle with rawhide through the slot. HH, Quindy.

Great hunt Randy... I think you guys are going to get some terrific finds there. Quindy nailed the ID. Happy New Year!

Thanks Doug. The owner has more land that he has cattle in that we can't hunt in yet and it looks the best as far as location. Over 20,000 troops stayed in this area and in one diary I read Gen. Grant made an inspection visit. I can't wait for Mike to bring his GPX over. He is getting good upper body workout with his digging. :laughing7:

Thanks Quindy. I was pretty sure it was to a saddle but didn't know the name.

Thanks Bill. I am pretty sure 2012 is going to be an awesome year for us. All four of us are going to hunt Culpeper in March and I can't wait.

I wish you could have made it too Mike. It is going to take us months to hunt this place due to the size. The first pic of Guy was as far as my telephoto lens could go. He was quite a ways away and he was either digging a bullet or praying there was a bullet there. :laughing9: The second pic of Sham was by accident. I was about to take a picture of him digging a bullet when he turned just when I snapped the picture. Came out pretty good I thought for not planning it. I can't wait to see what your GPX will do there. Most of our finds were only about 4" deep. My cartridge was just barely under the surface. I did dig one deep bullet so I know we left quite a few for you. :notworthy:

Thanks. I use a Sony Cybershot that takes HD pictures and has a 10x zoom which comes in handy.

Thanks Dman. We always have a great time whether we find one or a hundred finds. It doesn't get any better than that.

Thanks Guy. Man you was over a block away and that was as close as my zoom would go. I can't wait to get back there again. There is a plate there with one of our names on it. :headbang:
