Today's LARGER Art work finds - Framed Pieces - Most Signed

I will have to post the others in separate threads (like jewelry, pottery, misc).

Looking forward to all of the feedback.

As per my usual, these were all local thrift store finds.

The measurements are not exact bc my hubby ran off with the tape measure again.

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Trust me when I say that you will not hurt my feelings. (in other words, I didn't pay a $HIT load of money on these 5 pieces).
1. Anne Marie signed original watercolor - framed, approximately 30" x 10".

2. Appears to be a photograph that the artist used a texturized wash to paint over the photo. In the range of 24" x 18".

3. Love the painting (hate the frame) (matte works) - signed original oil painting. Approx 20" x 15".

4. Another embroidery piece (shared another earlier in the day from yesterday). Again, this appears hand made, however this piece is not signed. Prob close to 15" x 15".

5. And last, but definitely not least in the larger artwork pieces - Parasol by Louis Icart - SIGNED!! Copyright 1928 by L. Jeart - Paris. (one downfall - minor water damage that in my opinion does not detract from the beauty of the piece).

You do have good taste in art work. I like all of them,Afraid I would keep a couple. HH

I'm not sure which ones to keep, take to work for decoration, or gift. Also wondering if I should invest money to have the signature on the Icart piece authenticated.

Love the Icart etching, and the signature looks legit. You can get the water damage repaired for $50 or $60 or there abouts. I'm very jealous! The painting is awesome, if you are refering to the second piece. Quite ethereal. I have seen that signature before, but can't place the name. Perhaps someone will chime in. There are a couple of art forums online that you can post and get some help though. I can't remember their names though. Early stage Alzheimers setting in today I'm afraid. What did you pay for them?

Are you ready for this....

1. Original watercolor (Anne Marie) - $6

2. Photograph (signed unknown) - $4

3. Signed original oil painting (signed unknown) - $4

4. Embroidery (unsigned) - $3

5. Parasol by Louis Icart (signed) - $18.75

(plus applicable PA taxes of course)

This is why I said that I wouldn't be insulted if someone told me it was a piece of crap.

I use every "unknown" as an opportunity to learn a little bit more about vintage and antique designs.

They had so many pieces there that I wanted to buy. I could have bought them all for less than $300 total.

Local large chain store. They have had some impressive pieces lately. Some of the stuff they know what the item is worth, so they do a silent auction (ex. Stamp collection that sold for well over $8000 - that was the total when I checked before my wedding). This is the same place I got the Sascha Brastoff pieces (see my earlier posting). I only paid $12.50 for all four pieces! I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for earlier Brastoff pieces. Also bought the trombone enamel (I think it is an early French enamel piece) for $4.

Thank you for the feedback. BTW, almost every day I feel my early onset setting in anymore.

Thx Jeff! I try to buy pieces that speak to me. That way if they never sell I'm not really out anything....just invested in a new art piece.

While we are on the topic. Here are three other paintings I picked up recently at the same chain.

1. BARTON (signed in red) oil painting - currently hanging in my living room - frame measures 27.5" x 23.5" (paid $26)

2. L. Lily (signed oil painting - can't find any details on this artist) - who can resist hydrangeas - currently hangs above my headboard - frame measures a whopping 43" x 31" (paid $30) (come on, the frame is worth that!)

3. TAYLOR (75) (signed watercolor) - this piece spoke to me and I paid the most of any buy with this store - currently hangs in my living room - frame measures 31.5" x 27" (other than that 10k gold filigree necklace, and the 10k turn of the century stick pin - stick pin is subject of another post) (paid $34)

I'm going to post these separately. To avoid any concussion.

I like the Taylor piece also. As long as you like the work yourself, you can't go wrong. Resale is great, if it happens, but if you like it, then $30 for an original oil can't be beat. It's wonderful to get home and find that you scored an important piece of art, but finding something beautiful that you value is what it's all about. I still can't believe you found an Icart etching for $18.75. I've been looking for a piece by him for several years.
