Had a short day at work today, so got out for a few hrs to the same site l got the seated quarter from.

I grided the area l had left off from and nabbed and 1881 IH, a new date to my collection.

Also was rewarded with a silver plated sash buckle and monogramed spoon.

The spoon with the actual date, nice. Found lots of spoons but none like that.
Great find 👍👍

Thanks!

I gave it a hot soapy bath and then used my Dremel tool with the brass wire brush to remove all the crud in the water.

Once l had it pretty much all cleaned up, l dumped the dirty water out and put it in clean hot water and cleaned it up further.

When l got to the point that it was as clean as it was going to get, l coated it with Ren wax and buffed it with the wool pad to shine it up and gave it a final wipe with a clean microfiber cloth.

Nice finds... Congrats! oh how did you clean that Indian head penny if you don't mind me asking?

Harsh cleaning of a detector find with environmental damage is not a big deal. Cleaning with a dremel and wire brush is called “whizzing”. Coin collectors cringe when they see a whizzed coin!😳 For me, I’d rather see it cleaned like you did rather than one with crud. It’s best to check the date for rarity before you whiz just in case you have a super rare coin.

Outstanding! I'm going to try that method myself.

Thanks!

Had to do some research but the date is not the actual date.

Nice spoon. As you've discovered, the “1847 Rogers Bros.” mark doesn’t indicate the date for the spoon. The “1847” is in recognition of Rogers’ development of a process for electroplating onto base metal in that year, and that branding was first used on its 15th anniversary in 1862.

The pattern is indeed “Laurel”, designed by Henry W. Hirschfeld in 1878.

You did an OUTSTANDING job on cleaning up your finds :)P How do you clean your finds ?
