All Treasure Hunting
While attending a local TH'ing club meeting several weeks ago, I met a guy named Greg who had never metal detected before but was very interested in learning how to hunt Civil War relics. Today we hit a local "hunted out" spot and after I showed Greg how to set up, ground balance, sweep and pinpoint my Teknetics G2, he was off and running. I then got to work with my Teknetics T2 SE...two hours later, things were looking grim, nothing but a bunch of shotgun shell hulls to show for our efforts. I looked over at one point and Greg was right in the middle of a mess of brush and downed tree limbs working the coil under and through it all...quick learner! His hard work paid off as he found his first minie ball! Then 5 feet away, he pulls another from the ground. At this point, it's looking bad for me. Has the grasshopper already overtaken his teacher? Thankfully and saving face I get a couple of minies and a pistol ball. We finished the day getting a couple more minies and a few other odds and ends. Watch out all...I think I have created a relic hunting monster. Seriously....great job and congrats on your first hunt Greg!

Greg sure showed you today sekypaleo! :laughing7:

He sure seems to have what it takes to find the good stuff . . .
though it could just be beginners luck!

Even after 15 years of relic hunting and recovering over 5,000 CW bullets, I can still remember vividly the excitement of that first one. I knew exactly how Greg felt today and I was just happy to be there to see it happen!

Well done sekypaleo. Congrats to both of you guys. Greg looks like he just hit the lottery. ;D
I know the feeling too. I still remember finding my first CW bullet by a large Oak.

"Has the grasshopper already overtaken his teacher?" :laughing9: Classic!

Congrats to Greg and thumbs up to you Bill for taking him. Good finds for this time of year (heck, any time of year). Stay cool, Quindy.

I've got to get out of this desert and try my hand at relic hunting...my T2 SE is gathering dust in this heat.

Great finds!
