First time out since early spring we had a little snow and heavy rain to wash some artifacts out . I found a Sierra Contracting Stem point right off then nothing for hours feels good to get out though . Then I found a broken drilled piece of soapstone and worn down Martis point and Quartz Graver and called it a day . The Sierra Contracting Stem point is late archaic and intermediate periods between 3000 and 2000 B.C. then continues in the archaeological record until 1000 to 500 B.C. Basalt still sharp rare to find with the tip intact . N . California private property .

Good to see you back out and finding artifacts.

All interesting things too.

Wonder what the stone piece is....

Basalt point with the sharp tip is very nice.

Quartz graver not worth a picture?

You never let me down Dennis. As soon as I saw your new thread, I knew it was gonna be good! Thanks for your contributions here and anywhere to this community.

Killer point. Nice assortment!!

those gravers are too often overlooked, and under appreciated.

Very nice basalt point, as you mentioned it's hard to find one with a nice sharp tip.

What do you think the soapstone piece would have been?
I'm not sure it appeared to be split an broken in half maybe oval shaped possible flywheel for a pump drill . Here's a photo of how found and of the gopher mounds where I find most of the artifacts on this camp . As you can see these camps are covered in grass and tough to hunt any time of the year . Maybe that's why I'm still finding a few artifacts on this site after over forty years hunting the same camps .

Slow but steady works with all the grass. Thanks to all the squirrels and badgers that help us find things.

Dennis......Glad to see you are still at it and good to see the rains and gophers uncovering finds for you. And good that the white death hasn't dropped down on you either:)
