Any find is a good find, congrats

Your so right Ohio. I have been away for a while and really missed the hunt. I considered myself very lucky to find this baby. :D

a good find and a nice pooch.

thanks themarmot. I would never hunt points without my Charlie  he loves it!

Nice find, congrats. Sweet looking dog.

Molly.

Re: Today's Heartbreaker :(

Hey Charlie is back! Nice point. I agree it's a shame that it's broken, however you have a complete base. You can still tell type and time period.I don't like when they are broken either, but a broke point is just as important to your site material. Now take that dog and find a whole one or two or twelve!

Re: Today's Heartbreaker :(

Always makes me wonder how and when it happened and where the missing part is. Nice find anyways.

I have to admit I was cringing when I opened this post but low and behold there's a nice little point. You could restore that one really easily if you wanted-

Hahahaha! Well.... I was cringing when I saw that you posted  But low and behold........ you acknowledged that this is a real point :o ;D Thanks Cannonman. I would not have a clue as to how to restore it but that skill is on my list of things to learn. I have a couple of awesome points that are heartbreakers and would love to restore them. By the way.... if you cringed at opening this post..... just wait until you see my next post haha :D I have a feeling that you are going to say.... "Rocks ma boy!! just plain ol rocks." ;D

Man that would've been an awesome little point! Good lookin pup too.
Just remember.. even the WORST day artifact hunting is better than the BEST day at work

You seem to be on the right spot.. Keep hunting that area.

Good luck airborne

Re: Today's Heartbreaker :(

Well, I'm not an expert at restoring either, I've only played around with the idea. When I first tried I melted some wax (I was restoring a quartz point) and simply molded the semi soft wax to fill in the missing area and scooped out the flaking scars with an exacto knife, it worked GREAT..... on quartz. Then I tried doing the same with other points but I tried to match the color of the wax to the point and it just never turned out even close. As of late I have been using the same stuff I use on my pottery, it's a two part.... I don't know, like car bondo stuff I guess. It's hard as rock when dry, you have to add flake scars and what not before it dries though so you have to work fast. On the plus side you can take your time and paint it to match the stone really close. You should try the wax thing just to experiment, it's kind of fun and then when you get comfortable with it dry the bondo. Keep in mind this is coming from a guy who really doesn't claim to how to restore points, there may very well be much better info and/or techniques out there that I haven't come across yet.
