We took our Deus’s out to the field where I found my first hammered, it was a beautiful clear cold day with an evil wind… but we were to excited to be put off! Woolly hat on we set off… well.. just look what we found! 20 musket balls, 9 of our special little lead things, some other bullets, thimble, badge (?) buttons… weird lead finger… ( the last pic is the back of the badge and the back of the finger) other lead thing with a hole in it .. oh yes and I found a beautiful silver 1921 Florin and a hammered… no ID yet.. but wanted to post the haul 😆 what an amazing day xx

Now that was a really good day of hunting.
Congrats on the Florin and the Irish silvers.
Good amount of lead for sure.
The one that is beside the belt slide, wonder if it could be a powder measure that has been hit?
Question always a question. I see a item right below the thimble, a part of a ring?

Sometimes a slightly different amount of moisture in the ground and/or a slower/faster swing, and what you thought wasn't there, is.

Better machines, more experience, different angle, different season, disc'd, plowed, moisture.
In the groove:dontknow:

You have been finding really interesting things, a great variety and in good numbers. It must be lots of fun!
Speculating a little on the question about the balls. Maybe they are not for muskets. They seem to vary somewhat in size and some have indentations where they seem to have been in contact with other balls. Maybe buckshot? Or canister for a cannon?
The little lead items you find so many of got me thinking of net weights. Here, they have a hole in their centres for stringing on the bottom of a net as it is made. Maybe yours are also net weights, but designed to fit in a loop in the net? Again just speculating.

Ahh thank you! Yes we absolutely love it!! But we also are so lucky with our permission… xx

We are in the process of sorting out our finds… so will get all the musket balls together and measure them…but yes lots of them do have the same marks on the ?? 🤔 I suppose i always thought musket balls meant some kind of military action!!

Crusader very kindly found this article on a possible id of the littld lead thingys…
