Today's haul & a button question

Today was a little less finds but more interesting. At least, I think so. :)

The ring is always a plus even if it is GF. It came from about 7 inches down. Fairly old, I suspect.

The token just says No Cash Value on the other side.

The button is the most interesting to me. I've found a few old buttons like this one but this is the only one that I could actually read something on it. Easier to see when wet and/or under magnification. What I can see, in case they don't show in the pics, is the word "COLOUR" at the bottom and the letters "ST" at the top. Right next to the "ST" I THINK I can see a dot then the letter "N" followed by either an "E" or "F".

Any ideas, button experts?

Thanks for peeking!

HH!

I would guess the "stan" word is either stand. or stand'd. I think I've seen those on flat buttons from the early/mid 1800s?

correct me if i'm wrong.

Nice button! The button is old and the token is fairly modern....I have found several of that type and there are a number of variations. I think they were used at carnivals and fairs. The ring is very nice....does it clean up? I also like the mermaid item.......what's the story with that? Charm or what?

Thanks for the info. The ring I intend to try and clean up but I'm not expecting much. The mermaid, pretty much a charm I guess, plated, but the other side has been pretty completely "roached". Figures, huh. LOL.

I can't correct anyone on buttons. :)

The top, looks like it says "ST * NE" to me. :dontknow:

Best Colour Standard (or abbreviation) circa 1800-1850s roughly. I think that is the European spelling, so maybe made in London.

Nice finds! What's GF mean for the ring?

Awesome finds......I have been in flat button heaven lately and love to find them. The token and the ring are great finds. Now that is a good haul in anybody's book.:icon_thumleft:

"Standard Colour" looks about right. Congrats!
