Went out for about 2 1/2 hours today and decided to dig a bottle dump in the city as the poison ivy is in FULL THROTTLE out in the woods around here. We were probing down to find the dump so that we can return this weekend so really this was a test hole. But we figured that we would try to pull some goodies out before we left as we had spent the better part of 2 hours digging at FULL SPEED. The hole was about 6 ft deep by the time we started hitting the bottles. I pulled out a nice late 1800s "The New York Soda & Seltzer MFG CO Norfolk, VA" bottle, a nice whisky, medicine, and soda...all from the late 1800s. I then whipped the detector out and scanned the dirt that we pulled from the hole and came up with a nice 1800s Graphite Pencil, a nice little brass buckle, and a 1847 Large Cent ;D.She was in pretty rough shape but a Large is a Large. I was happy with the take and I think this weekend will prove it a very good hole!

Hey Nana, anything for you  It is a little harder when digging bottle pits because it is such hard core working that you dont really have a chance to stop and video BUT, when I go back on Saturday morning I will try and remember my DVR and record some for you. I really like videoing anyways and its reinforcing when you have friends you know want to see them.

OH how I would like to get into some digging like that. All the finds are neat to me. I second Nana's request. Thanks for sharing.

Burdie

I'd like to see a video as well!

Josh,
Congrats on some neat finds. Old bottles are so cool.
Looking forward to seeing a vid of what you are working on.
Great job,
MM

Very Cool. The LC doesn't look that bad too me.

You know the poision ivy will not effect you unless you "break" the leaves. ;D Just don't dig in it. :D

Yeah, that's what some say about Poison Ivy ....Heck my arms and my face are broken out right now and I was VERY careful not to touch it. I believe the oil from the leaves got on my shoe laces and when I momentarily dropped my guard and untied my shoes laces I "tainted" myself. Growing up with that stuff since a kid, I have always been careful of that stuff but it usually somehow finds a way to get you if there's a PLENTY of it around as it is in Virginia right now.

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, I guess the Large Cent isn't too bad, I have seen much better but I have also seen much worse too :P  ;D

Super finds Sentinel
Love those old bottles and the LC is icing on the cake.
A good hunt my friend.

That looks to be a sweet dump, good luck with it!!!
