Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Been a bit of a dry spell. Just a couple toasted indians in the past couple weeks.

I throw all my trash in a bucket at the end of a day of detecting. Every once in a while I'll go through the trash bucket and sort out the recyclable metals. Occasionally I come across something I missed (usually because it's in poor shape). Such was today...a couple items out of the trash bucket got my attention.

Dog Tax 082223.jpg

I remember finding this a couple of weeks ago thinking it was iron. Cleaning it off, turns out it is a dog tax tag. Unfortunately it has considerable damage. Note the dogs head on the bottom left. Tag says "Dog Tax, City of Allegan". Pretty sure the date is 1915 when I get it in the right light.

If any of you have experience restoring such an item, please send me a tip or two, I would like to try to get this to be a displayable piece.

Badge 082223.jpg

I also remember finding this and dismissing it as a toy aluminum badge typical of the '50s or '60s. However, on closer inspection I noticed that it said Michigan. In all it appears to be EGAN MICHIGAN or LEGAN MICHIGAN. So I have to believe it is ALLEGAN MICHIGAN. Curious as to what purpose it served. Still believe it would be from the '50s or '60s.

Yes, usually a good luck token that you could customize to say anything you wanted. Some also had a coin in the center, so, you were never broke!

Cool finds !

I've found a few of those Aluminum Star Tokens - some with names & dates on them.
I remember seeing them at Fairs & Carnivals when I was a kid.
Here's few photo's of the machines that made them.

Exactly what I was referring to! From the looks of the age those machines some of us are dating ourselves. Can't even begin to recall the last time I saw one of those.
