These were found in my favorite spot. I have not identified them yet but will do it ASAP. Tons and tons of flaking was all over the place. The last pic is a strange one to me. Its either just another flake or (due to the way that it fits the hand) it may be a tool that was used for flaking. Any thoughts?

Can we get some scans that are in focus--it is just too difficult to see any details with the pictures you posted.

Stryker

Not very clear pics but can still make out most of them,
The first & fifth are Morrow Mountains. Middle Archaic 5000BC-2000BC.
Second & Third are Guilfords also Middle Archaic.
Sixth could be a Chesapeake Diamond, need a clearer pic, they are common in VA,also Middle Archaic.
I wouldn't like to say what the others are, I'll not guess, need clearer pics.
Well done on your finds.

Molly. :)

::) You're VERY good.. I've studied artifacts my whole life and several of those pieces you have not only positively identified as artifacts but also attributed as well when I can't even tell if they are a point or just a rock because of the poor picture quality. The first three in particular- simply amazing.

Just an update on the last photo. I thought that it was a flake at first.... which it is. But when I held it, it fit so perfect in my fingers, that it seemed like a tool. I studdied a site on the internet that deals with Indian tools and learned about "Micro Flakes". That convinced me that this item most likely was a flake that was used as a tool to work on arrowheads. Even in this photo, you can see the micro flakes or serrated edge. Now..... go ahead and shoot me down C Man ;)

As they said in Jump School.... NEVER EVER give up!!!! ;) Now... I still have not had it analyzed, so it MAY be a saltine cracker. But.... even you said that shale points do not always show flaking.....right? So just for the record..... what do you really think this thing is? I mean..... really. A light stone that is shaped like a point? I not offended or upset.... at all.... I seriously want your opinion as to what this thing is.... if its not a point. I mean look..... in December, I thought flakes were people who did not work. So, I really do need to learn as much as I can.

ooops.... sorry Cannonman, I thought this was the lance tip discussion hahaha. Ok... so I take it you do not think that this is a tool. Can we agree that its a flake ? :)

I think it may be a flake.. yes. Not sure but perhaps. Tool... doubt it.. possible..but seriously doubt it. (although a good many "tools" were really nothing more than simple flakes that were picked up and used, not modified by anything other than use-wear.)

Airborne80, I sincerely mean no offense to you, but there are 10,000 times more natural rocks in the general shape of an arrowhead then arrowheads in the fields.

Strictly IMO, I really see no artifacts in the pictures, true the pictures are blurry and are hard to see. I think it would help you in your artifact search if you visited an artifact show or museum to see in person what your looking to find.

I am not trying to discourage you, only help, I encourage you to keep looking, but don't waste your time looking at the wrong things, most times you will not have to question your find, the artifact will be obvious, either whole or broken. I am afraid you are training your eye to find natural shaped rocks instead of how to find artifacts.

There are major artifact shows all over the country starting in the spring. Find one you can drive to and go. They are amazing to attend and you can obtain vast amounts knowledge there that will help you in your search. If you feel sure, take a few of your finds with you if you wish, but don't be offended when they tell you they are just rocks.

Good luck in your search.............

I hear you and appreciate the advice. I will attend one of the shows ASAP. That's a great idea. Hey what is "IMO".? Anyway.... thanks again.

IMO = In my opinion.

Here is by far one of the best websites for artifacts...Tons of info for you.........

http://www.arrowheads.com/main.htm

Click the link for shows and events, it still lists apprx 23 shows for this year

Airborne, you have posted some arrowheads in other threads that are beyond question. I remember a white one in the water that was great.

Treasure Hunter..... Thanks for the site. I cant wait to explore it in detail! Also... the IMO thing was driving me crazy :) Thanks for explaining it.

Billco...... I am happy that you said that. I have been thing about that, After reading Cannonman's comment about me finally finding a point that we can all agree is in fact a point.... I was going to re post my first two finds. I am at work now and will try to do it. If not... I will re post them when I get home. Back then, nobody knew me on this site so I was sad that I only got a very few comments on them. They were the two arrowheads that launched me into this hobby like a madman :) I will see if I can find them on this computer. Thanks again guys.

Airborne, plain and simple - you are a new arrowhead hunter. All new hunters are just alike. Some might post less in forums out of fear of being bombarded with negative comments, but that just means that they're more afraid - not any smarter about artifacts.

I think you're progressing just fine. You've just exposed more of your THINKING than most do. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it has often started some informative threads here.

Bear in mind though that I've only been hunting since last October, so I might know where you're coming from more than most here.
