Today's Finds, Nice '44 Nickel, some clad, other junk
I hunted today for about 4-5 hours, started at the city park and stayed there for a couple hours, found the kids ring...not silver or anything, bummer....but my second fake ring since I started MDing in July, also found a dime and some memorial cents. From there I went to buy another digging tool because I bent my trowel that I was using at the park, stopped by Ace hardware and got a nice new garden trowel, this baby is like 3/16 steel and won't bend at all, it's also graduated up to 4" and sharp on the edges, and for only 7 bucks, I really like it now...from there I went to my father-in-law's house, there is an old house seat back in the woods that dates back to the 40's or so, that is where I found the nickel, my first silver coin so far, well 35% silver that is, but its in really good condition tho!! My wife went to the old homesite with me and looked around, but I only got to detect a small part of the yard, mostly finding old toothpasted tubes, screw caps and a couple old style pulltabs. I also found an old bottle that has grapes cast into the glass and says "FAIRVIEW WINE CO OF MAINE". There's also a dried up well there but its pretty deep. The house must have burnt down because all that is left is the block fouindation and remnants of a fridge, stove and mattress springs. I'll probably hit the park and the old homesite again tomorrow along with some other old home sites in the woods at a state park near here. Wish me luck on finding jewelry in the park and winning the Powerball......300 mil...wouldn't that be nice!! Anyways...HH
