First pic is what looks like a plowed road but wider. Along it are hiant mounds of dirt, it wasnt plowed recentlly, guessing 10 years ago maybe? maybe 20... then theres a stream along a stonewall that looks like it was ment to be there. Also tags on trees that are numbered, the one pictured is 113, dont know how high they go oir where number 1 is. Only finds today were a metal claw? and a jar lid with 43 written on it in sharpy marker.

Jake,

could be an old road, hard to tell.

Numbers on trees have me stumped.

Glad to see you found a new area to hunt, hope it gives up something..

(think you got the stream twice in error)?

have a good un.............

Jake....Maybe the road was once a fire break? ....don't know about the ribbon on the tree...looks recent...

:'( you may be fixin to loose part of your woods.... :'(

Neat pictures!

;)

carriage path or old stage road tree tags are for thinning they are forester tags of sort they are going to thin out the trees soon or next year so get to digging soon they may be developing it soon.....research the area get some old maps find out what it was...

Probe the mound to check for a trash pit,

may contain lots of old bottles!

Wow, looks like a very mysterious site to detect! Good luck and hope you find something interesting! HH, Mike

Probed one and found it was just regular soil :-\ I saw holes in the ground that look just like when you dig a hole with a bucket from a bachhoe, hope its not a perk test :-\ Wish there was a way to stop a development....

Jake - If the mounds of soil are near the road, my guess would be they are simply what was pushed out of the way while building the road. The stuff had to go somewhere.

Jake, I don't know about up in Mass, but here in RI they use tags that are similar to those to mark a trail. I've seen them twice in the last few weeks of hunting, and both were along hiking/biking trails. If I were you, I'd check out that stone wall some more. Follow it to where it intersects with another wall. People used to put there trash dumps in the corners!! Where ever I've found those stone walls, I;ve found dump sites not far, with lots of nice old bottles added to my collection!!! Good luck!

Don't think its a trail, too wide. Gold?!? here in mass? could I find some here? I followed it till it intersects, nothing there :-\ I cant follow the road thing all the wat cause it leads into heavy brush and flooded swampy area.
