Northern Virginia
Detector(s) used
New Excalibur II, DFX w 12" Super and stock coil, XLT with stock coil, 14" & 6" coils
Got out this afternoon around 3pm. Hunted until dark. Within minutes I dug the first bullet. Then some coins, then some more bullets, and then .......a Virginia Staff Officers Button, in incredible condition. Continued to dig some more bullets and pieces of lead, and then found the "civil war token"; on the front is says "FIRST IN WAR FIRST IN PEACE" & "1863". On the back it says "UNION FOR EVER". I couldn't wait to get home to clean the other coins, hoping they were more tokens, but they wern't. They were Indian Heads from 1863 thru 1906.

Enjoy the pictures.

Beautiful piece's and they're in great shape.....Nice layout, gotta remember that next time I have something good to post :D Congrat's......

Incredible stuff! I'm still looking for my first nice confederate button! Whatever you're doing, drop it and go immediately back to that site! I like the way you displayed the relics, very professional!

That token is really nice, great finds!

Hey guys, just got home and cleaned a button that I found at dark!!!!! You wont believe that its another Virginia button, in incredible shape with lots of GOLD and no dings!!!!! Its in such good shape, I think I may have to throw the one away from yesterday!!!
I will post it shortly as soon as I take some pictures.

Great finds DC..reminds me of my hunts in the Cold Harbor area of Virginia. I recovered a 58 cal bayonet. On each side of the bayonet was a full size Virginia Officers Button. The buttons were in excellent condition. I think the sandy soil in eastern Virginia has a lot to do with button condition.

Thanks everyone for the great comments.
If you haven't already looked, you need to see what I found at the same site today!!!
I posted it earlier this evening. Titled "Gold & Silver today", or something like that.

Here's a close up of the one that I found yesterday. I don't know what it is about this piece, kinda gives me a strange feeling, wondering what the story is behind it.

I was told mine was Art Nouveau era 1890-1914.
Very nice find.
