My son and I went out for a bit today. We still need some more rains to improve conditions, but it was a fairly productive day. I found a big knife and a weird "Thebes" knife:

Here's the "Thebes" cleaned up... at least as good as you can clean up something like this. It's pretty well unifacial:

Side views of the worked edge and the thick rind edge:

It's kind of like the maker had a "What the heck was I thinking??" moment and gave up.

Here's the big knife cleaned up. Looks like a part of one side got sliced off at some point:

The Thebes looks unfinished, still might have been used on the blades edge. I found a corner notched point like that one time, right side was completely finished; for some reason the left was left untouched. It was like half a point in a chunk of rock; strange but kind of cool.

Nice finds! We’ve had a lot of posts sharing pictures of Backed Knives and Spokeshaves. That Thebes relic looks more to fit a combo-tool of both, sort of multi-tool. (IMO)

I'm not convinced that's an actual Thebes type.

I didn’t intend to imply that it’s a classic Thebes, so I put “Thebes” in quotations, since it superficially resembles one.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck
