Today wasn't that great for finds. The 1700's part of the field was again, all can slaw. I'd like to dig the iron targets, but there's so many and the field is really rocky over there. There must have been one hell of a party there at one time with all the beer cans I've found.
I packed up and headed over to the 1900's area. I'm glad I did. About a half hour or so after I got there, a car pulled up and an older gentleman got out and introduced himself. Turns out he grew up in the 1900's house. We talked for an hour; I showed him some photos of things I found there. He told me when they moved in, and his mom started the garden they found all kinds of old things and just threw them away! He told me they dumped all their trash in a grove of trees in another field just up the hill. That grove of trees is part of my permission. Maybe I'll find the items they dumped.
After he left, I made my way to the grove of trees. I only did a quick search of a small area and found some headstamps and a PETERS 30 USG cartridge. As far as I can tell, these were 30-40 Krag and made under the PETERS headstamp between 1903 and 1960. Headstamps as follows: UMC 1896-1900, USC 1926-1938, and FEDERAL 1950-Mid 1960's.
I found an interesting disc. SAMPSON BRASS PLUGS. Apparently, these were for patching bicycle tires and tubes. Looks like these were patented April 19, 1898. I've included a pic of the original I found.
Here's a pic of all the better finds. Can-slaw not included. You all see enough of that on your own hunts.
Not the day I had yesterday, but not a bad day either.
Thanks for looking...
