I wanted to get out to my corn field permission on Tuesday, but work and my Trailblazer got in the way. My Trailblazer broke an upper control arm in the left rear. For this time of year work has been extremely busy. So, I was able to get out today. It was chilly this morning and the wind was awful.

I started in what was the yard of the 1900's house then moved to the 1700's section. The best find of the day. A flat button with gilt. Back mark reads: SCOVILLS EXTRA. According to some back mark info I found date could possibly be 1827-1840. The front is awesome! It reads: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - E PLURIBIS UNIUM with the great old eagle.

Here are the rest of the finds, including a quartz crystal and some pottery I found in the holes.

The shot gun headstamp is UMC CO. New Club 12 GA 1892-1896.

Thanks for looking...

I GOT THAT SAME BUTTON!!! I believe it was a diplomatic button….
Cool, I wasn't sure what it was for. I've found that Scovill made a lot of U.S. Military from the war of 1812 to modern times.

Very Cool!!! Congrats!!!

Well done on the great looking button.
It always sucks when something breaks and it usually happens when life is busy.
I did notice on the headstamp your recovery isn't a Circle Primer so the date is a tad different.

Woops, typed the wrong date range.

I found Scovill is still in business under the name Morito Scovill. I found contact info and emailed to see if someone there could identify the button's use. It's amazing that this company has been in business for two centuries.

4 yrs is really nothing when it is pre 1900's.
I did learn the difference in the 2 headstamps and I'm quite impressed at the narrow date of manufacturing between the 2.
Great amount of information on the 2 sights and really helps narrow down the time of habitation on a certain site.

Found the Scovills button on Worth Point. Looks to be an 1812-1820 Army Officer's patriotic Cockade button.

Nice hunt !! Quick little bath for that button in some lemon juice, she'd really be pretty
