Another .80 of rain Friday night on top of the 2.21 we had on Tuesday. Looked fairly nice about 10AM so I decided I would go down to the 1860's farm. I wanted to search around the pond and attempt to get across the creek to search in the woods. My deus 2 WS6 Master arrived Friday afternoon and I just had to get it to play. With the threat of snow this week it might be the last time for a while.

First find at the farm was a crotal bell. I think it's Tombac. It shined up nice right out of the hole. It's slightly bigger than a quarter. Next a gromet, then a garden hose fitting. A tusk looking thing and 2 shotgun shells. I need to clean those up to see what they are. They're really crusty. I made my way down to the pond which was understandably spilling over the banks. Not able to get in and swing around. Walked to several points of the creek and couldn't find a decent way across. The creek was also way over its banks.

Looked around the barns had a couple of hits that turned out to be iron.

I was disappointed, the fields really don't seem to be producing. I even tried the upper field which is on a really steep hill. Makes me wonder how they use machinery to plow, plant, and harvest. All I dug in the upper field was aluminum trash. Decided to leave that permission and stop at another on the way home. This permission always seems to produce clad every time I stop. Today was no different. Spent an hour swinging and hit more clad in areas I've hit before.

I like the WS6 Master. It's super light and definitely hits on small aluminum bits fairly deep. I used the General program at the farm and HC Deep at the second location. Definitely need to keep reading over the manual and watching more videos on it. All in all, a good day to get out and had fun.

Thanks for looking...

Congrats on the Crotal bell, and the Deus ll.
If you leave it soak in a Rust Restore it probably loosen up the iron pellet inside, and remove some of iron leaching.

It's recommended to use the general program in real wet conditions.
One can tweet the audio and other features once you get a sense of what it telling you.

When hunting the fields one must always keep in mind once off the actual house/yard it's basically pasture/crop/hay fields.
So not much is dropped/lost in those areas.
There can be little patches where annual loading was done of crops, but usually the main fields are quiet.

Concentrate around the heavy iron patches (concentration of nails/iron)
Look also for glass/brick/rubble stone in the areas also.

This ir where the D2 shines in these locations as it will pick out the keepers.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give the Rust Restore a try. I'd like to clean the rust off the bell. I've never seen a bell with that silver shine. Was reading on ClassicBells.com that some bells were nickel plated. I thought tombac since it cleaned up nice out of the hole like the buttons I've found.

The house and barns are loaded with iron and can trash. I keep working the lower field looking for the medallion that belonged to the top piece of the fireman's tournament medal I found a few weeks ago. I will most likely never find it.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Nice finds. I get your disappointment to a degree. However, with the extremely low temps which moved in yesterday, I say that's a pretty good haul.
Congratulations on your finds.

I couldn't find Rust Restore locally. I got an EvapoRust like product made by Blaster (PBBlaster fame). I also got a Rust Oleum gel rust remover. We'll see what happens.

Neither product worked.

Sibbley nice going. The bells are always great to find :)

Ended up cleaning the rust off the bell with Dremel products. I know it's bad juju to use wire wheels and cutting tools, but I think it came out pretty good. Makes me really wonder if this bell is nickel plated, it's so silvery.

Still a rusty ball inside, so now it jingles.
