Well, my best find today, was where I hunted. Not that it produced anything at all to get excited about, but it just was a really cool spot. I have been researching with a map from 1914. The old one room school houses are all on the map. I found one that was on a road that no longer is there.
When overlaying a modern map, I was able to mark the location. It was in the corner of a woods just off of a hey field. I went to the farm house that owed the property. He pointed me to the exact location of the old foundation. It had been a building about 40' X40' with a basement under it. To the south of what was the front of the school, was the old well. It is a 4' diameter hole about 7 or 8 feet deep, lined with a cement wall.
I hunted all around the foundation, but it was full of sheet metal scraps and nails from the old roof. I began working out, eventually into a small medow type area I thought may have been a playground. I really found nothing by scrap metal. On the west side of the foundation over about 50 feet, I found what seemed to be a dump. It was amound of dirt, with tons of coal ashes, junks of coal, and lots of scrap metal. There were pipes, which appeared to have been used as fence posts (they had wire around them) and hunks of what appeared to be the old cast iron stove.
Oh yes, I was watching for bottles, but never found any. There were a few small scraps of broken china. I did find some horse shoes, which was cool, but no coins at all.
Oh yeah, one other thing. That well, just kept calling my name. I finely climed down into it. there wasn't room to swing a detector between the wall and the center pipe, so I took my vibra-probe and digger down with me.
Apperently, not a single wish had been made at that well! lol
