I am a detecting addict now, and I had to swing today, well hit a playground with my 5 year old daughter.

place was crowded, and made a note to go on the weekday to hit playgrounds lol

but I hit 2 trash metals (which I am throwing in to a bucket and eventually taking to the scrap iron place) and a dime. I dug like a mad woman for that dime lol

I was in the pine trees in the back of the playground and hit my dime and started digging, but it was kinda dark so I took off my sunglasses....and dummy me laid them on the ground....as I was digging deep for my 1981 dime----my daughter comes up and steps on my glasses.

So the cost of this dig was way in the hole for me. That dime didn't cover my sunglasses lol and yes they are a twisted mess.

But she had a great time playing and I am way more in tune with my beeps on this detector. Figuring it all out slowly.........but quick question-----

on dimes----is the Roosevelt the only one that is not total silver? I did a fast read and I am thinking that all dimes before are the silver ones I want to find.

I realize now I have to acquire coin knowledge with this detecting ....something I don't know anything about.

just wondering lol

good hunting to everyone

If you keep on diggin you'll break even eventually! I've MDing ALOT of years...the tector has paid for itself, but I'm all most certainly still in the hole on all the gas ;D ;D ;D

It's been more than worth it anyways...all the cool places I've been and wild stuff I've found in the ground!

Have fun

thanks savant
I have added that coin website to my favs.
I better start learning values and what I am looking for lol

and adv.w/jim
yes, lol, I do hope to pay off the dect some day but at this rate it will be a while for me
and don't get me started on gas prices :laughing9:

The more you go out, the more you'll love the hunt. To me, it's the fun of finding something that was lost. Sure, it's just pocket change, but so much fun!
Finding silver is great, but when you find that first piece of jewelry or ring. WOW!!!!!
Happy Hunting,
and welcome to a great website and a fun hobby.

I'm sure that is a common thought (me for sure) for most of us hopelessly optimistics, AKA MDer's.

Mel Fisher said the same thing every day for 18 years, then bam, 40 tons of gold and silver.

yikes--18 years

well OK I can wait then :laughing9:

I am not doing anything else I know of

the thrill of what I haven't dug up yet just keeps me going... :icon_sunny:

but to hear that tale, 40 tons, whew...I have a goal now

My appologies, it was ONLY 16 years.

If you want more of the story google "atocha"

ONLY 16 years
cool that will fly by fast I am sure :laughing9:

thanks Rick
I will check it out

Hey FarmerChick.
the more you hunt the more you learn, then somedays you'll say...I knew I would find it here!

BTW here is one of many 70 lb bricks of the silver Mel Fisher found. I think something rubbed off that brick 'cause before that day of me in the lab all I found was small change and matchbox cars :-\, Since then so far this year I have found two gold pieces...both having rubies in them. ;D ;D. and a load of change... Good luck hunting.....your days coming :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:
