Todays find was almost "ME"

I went out Sunday afternoon to find old site. I didnā€™t find it, got turned around and lost my bearings for a few till I heard some gunshots and then I knew where to go to find the old road. I did find some old rusted junk cans and bottles from around the 60ā€™s I think. Here is an old metal bottle, Iā€˜m not sure what was in it.

These 2 soda bottle was laying nearby . With magnifier I can make out Silver Seal Soda, the banner on back says: Produced and bottled by American Soda Water Co. St. Louis, Mo.

I also found these 2 jars near by too. One does not have a screw on type top, this is made by Ball. The other does have a screw on lid type and itā€™s manufacture is an A between an arch.

On the way back I stopped at this site from late 60ā€™s where a trailer use to sit. I found 3 Altoids cans, but lost one on the way home. I opened it at site and found a letter dating 2005, It started Dear God and had a couple of names at end. I didnā€™t read it, figured I do that at home. The other two also had letters say pretty much the same thing, these dated 2004 and 2006. There is a camp about a Ā½ mile away, so probably some kids messing around and buried them. They were around 2ā€ to 3ā€ deep.

The bad part of the day was I got home and wife about killed me. She lost power just after I left 3 hours before and no way to get ahold of me. Then it took a friend of ours and I 3 more hours to find out every other breaker wasnā€™t working and fix it for now.
Thanks for looking.

The metal bottle is actually a beer can. I don't know the dates but I have dug them and seen them nondug with the painted labels still on them.

Re: Todays find was almost "ME"

Neat finds. I think the messages in the Altoid cans are special. Good luck with your breaker box.

Thank you VAyank, Imnengr and Chris, I didn't think about them being beer cans. I did find some of the older flat top beer cans, I could see where they used a church key to open them. The wierd thing is all these can are laying pretty much on top of the ground, you would figure they would be burried down some for being that old, bad thing is all of them are all rusted and falling apart and no writing or pictures to tell what they use to be. I am going to search around there more and see if I can find any other bottles.
Dman and Mike, yes my heart was racing, hoping someone burried a little cashe in them, also figured might be a dead goldfish grave, :laughing9: but read the title of the one and it said Dear God, and was signed by a guy and girl, I was thinking oh no, Suiside letter. YIKES. Read it when I got home, but lost that one along the way back.
Allen - The ones I got pretty much quote a little religious stuff, says this girls birth day was in a couple of days and qoute some scriptures. No last name or address to contact them to give them back too. I been checking the old plat maps against Google map and think I got where it is now. I was to far down where I was checking. It's in teh woods right across from the site I found the Altoids can at.

Vanoldschool, Where we live you can't even hear me now. No one gets service out here. I might of got one bar being up on the hill but we pretty well decided on getting some good walkie talkies.
CM, Rollercoaster is about what I was doing when I got home and wife wanted to kick me. The other site I was going to she could of walked down and found me. But out in the woods which is closer and I could almost walk them blindfolded, her on the other hand couldn't tell which way was east or west or right or left.
As much as we mushroom hunt it you would think she would know her way around.

.if you find yourself in those letters that were intended for God .... can you be an angel and has to try to fix the problems of these children :angel7:. if you do not leave a message written on them and children back in 50 years to laugh. :laughing7:
greetings!

Re: Todays find was almost "ME"

Cone Top Cans are what I look for when I am looking for bottle digging sites. They are of the same era of round milk bottles. I left the woods one day a few years back with 5 grocery bags of nice milk bottles. I saw the cone tops first and started working the hillside. Cone Top Cans could be run on a bottling machine filled with beer and capped in the factory to be sent out to the stores.

Re: Todays find was almost "ME"

Nice finds! I have old beer cans that look like the one's you found.

I agree, with the "brake fluid can"
I remember using many pints in cans like that in an old 53 Chevy custom cab.
They decompose quickly because the old style brake fluid was verry corrosive.
