Todays find 'a sholder scale' 1850's

Went out to a favorite site and squared on a shoulder scale. I believe it to be 1850's. I know they used them in the CW but the pit is a little before the war.

A real thrill to find. Any one have an idea on the worth of one. It is not for sale but sometimes you want to know if you at least broke even on the gas money.

Great find, and its whole too! I think one shoulder scale is worth in the range of $40-$60. HH!

I have one identical to yours but it is in pieces. The small wavy pieces are commonly found separate. Mine was found at Ft. Sedgwick Co.(Yes the same one as in the "Dances with Wolves "movie). As this army post was post CW I imagine the time frame these were used was long.

Great find

I got my parts out in western Wyoming spread over 200 yards in a cow pasture. Nice to find a whole one! Well done!! :occasion14:

Those were said to be quickly discarded as uncomfortable and impracticle in the field

I am sure that my parts came from more than one or two. More to find out there.
