Today's Digs...Early site and a hammered around the corner!
I got out in the soaking rain today with my good bud Bill D. We went back to the site where the early hammered coins came from last season but decided to explore a bit more. After nearly 5 hours in the soaking misty rain we finally saw brick in the soil and heard plenty of iron. This was a weird site as it was large and spread out but very little targets. Everything that we found was very early.
My take for the day was 4 buttons, 2 round balls (one pewter) plenty of buck balls and a nice early complete spectacle buckle. Three of the buttons were very early, 1 pewter cast tudor rose, 1 early high domed tudor rose button face (missing the back as soldered on) an early lead turret shank button and then a mid 1700s small dandy button. I left one of the buttons at Bill's so he was nice enough to take a few pictures of it (photo credit for you Bill)
With as early as this site is (see the pottery chards picked up) there has to be an early silver laying amongst the iron.
