Today's Digs...Early site and a hammered around the corner!

I got out in the soaking rain today with my good bud Bill D. We went back to the site where the early hammered coins came from last season but decided to explore a bit more. After nearly 5 hours in the soaking misty rain we finally saw brick in the soil and heard plenty of iron. This was a weird site as it was large and spread out but very little targets. Everything that we found was very early.

My take for the day was 4 buttons, 2 round balls (one pewter) plenty of buck balls and a nice early complete spectacle buckle. Three of the buttons were very early, 1 pewter cast tudor rose, 1 early high domed tudor rose button face (missing the back as soldered on) an early lead turret shank button and then a mid 1700s small dandy button. I left one of the buttons at Bill's so he was nice enough to take a few pictures of it (photo credit for you Bill)

With as early as this site is (see the pottery chards picked up) there has to be an early silver laying amongst the iron.

Nice button, the shoe buckle is a nice peace, if that is what it is.

Killer bits, boyz!

Thats a nice piece

Great stuff right there. :icon_thumleft:

Glad we decided to hit that spot again Dan as it was definitely hiding some oldies we missed last year on a quick pass through. Definitely an interesting yet strange site to hunt as that highly mineralized dirt and all that iron made the goodies hard to pick out. Need to give it another shot soon. Love that button and buckle -17th century without a doubt. Does your spoon bowl have any markings?

That buckle could be a center piece of any display.

Good stuff Dan.

That sure is some early stuff Dan. I love that fancy spectacle buckle. That high domed nipple button is cool too.

Nice buckle and buttons Dan. I also like the marbled Staffordshire slipware sherd you found which, according to Hume, are mainly found on mid 17th to early 18th century sites.

Thanks Joey - this is an early site. I do enjoy these buckles hopefully both Bill and I will add a few more in the new future.

Nice Finds Dan. Interesting pieces as usual.
