Today's Cold & Snow Finds...more Colonial Silver!

Bill and I had finalized a plan for the day, but Mother Nature threw a wrench into it. We were going to start the day where we left off at last time - at a site we hit a week ago. We then had planned to go check with a new landowner who had granted us permission at a new site. Well in less than 24 hours the weather went from a perfect forecast to a day of wet, wind, and white stuff.

We decided to just stick it out at the old site so as to not disturb the new owner on a poor weather day. It worked out, but it was cold! I have to admit that we quit after only about 4.5 hours as we both were soaked and cold.

I did manage to find a few nice little items. I dug another cut spanish pistareen and a few other odds and ends. I was the silver daddy today as I also managed to dig a nice standing liberty quarter and merc dime. It was funny though - I don't think we had been at the site for more than 5 minutes, as on my second hole out popped the cut silver, I knew then my day was down hill as I had been cursed by the "first hole target demon."

I managed a few buttons, a HUGE .75 musket ball, and a cool 3-Pence Coin Weight.

Bill dug himself something decent as well, but will let him post.

Still thawing out & HH

Dan

nice finds wish i could luck up on a good spot here in west virginia

I just saw his post and both your hands still look cold. You guys nailed the silver today. It looks like you all made the right decision on location. Just think all that awaits come spring. Good luck and nice lot of silver. Like that coin weight.
HH

Very nice! I especially like that little coin weight. Great hunt. Im debating on going back to my field but 31 degrees blowing 40 I may pass! Or put on the artic carharts...hm.

Actually, I was struck by the first hole demon too, but it took me a lot longer to get there after a very slow start. You definitely had a nice hunt, and temporarily regained the silver daddy title. But I'll be gunning to recapture it next time, so you'd better bring your A-game .... LOL!! See ya soon.

Your average day wood make sum others YEAR!!!! CONGRATS.. HH

Dan,your my hero brother. Love the cut silver. I have not found any Spanish silver here in NC .. I know it is here though.

Great hunt once again. You and Bill(and your sometimes hunt partner Beau) are gonna be the hardest guys to beat this year on finds! Amazing stuff.

Never seen that type of coin weight, its not in my book. I think it maybe a medicine weight, as the VR would make more sense on this??(but not like any other I have seen) Do you know more about it?

PS. 'P' was not used to mean pence, instead a 'D'. £SD or LSD - pounds shillings & pence

Nice finds Dan. I always thought they were coin weights as well. I may have to look at mine for a better ID. Nice silver as well!
