Got out today in central massachusetts and hunted a couple old cellar holes...lots of nails that bounce the readings on detector..but did dig out a 1853 large cent and a neat old button, glad to get date off copper as most are toast in my area when dug up....button seems to have boy and a girl on it...some type todays finds.jpg of two piece as back steel and rusty and where cutaway on front can see rust...not sure what they are doing but looks like old type cooking stove back right but then again looks like a tree behind stove....any input appreciated...

Outstanding button, and a large cent is pretty nice too. Good for you.

Great Copper! The button is Awesome! It looks like they are at a wishing well...maybe??? Great Job! :icon_thumleft:

Nice large cent

ScannedImage-3.jpgScannedImage-4.jpg cleaned up fairly nice.

Believe you guys got it

Its Jack and Jill going up the hill to fetch a pail of water! :laughing9:

can see his hand on a lever it looks like to pump out water and not a tree but spout of well head...great guess!!

Sweet digin':occasion14:

If I may ask, how deep, what type of soil, what brand of detector are you using?:icon_scratch:

The large cent I actually found about 10 feet from cellar hole along edge of the driveway....was only down about 4 inches at the most and came in on my Whites MXT with 4x6 shooter coil as silver right around 90-91 reading....button was found in front yard of another cellar hole close to front step....area is loaded with trash from that time frame...dug up piece of tin few inches down, swept coil again and button came up close to 3 inches...not deep at all...and tin was hiding button.....i usually dig any signal above iron siganls that have a decent repeating tone only if not a lot of "modern " trash around....so have over a hundred old buttons and like the buttons as can kinda date the area from shanks on back.....soil in my area is high in minerals but do get a few spots not bad, hence the large copper cleaning up fairly decent....only got a few like that or better.
