The "star" just indicates that the bill was replaced. The older bill may have been ripped or damaged so they made a new one to replace it.

Where did you find it? In your pocket?
 

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but unless they are old or perfect, they're only worth about $100. I mean if you collect currency, it's kinda cool to own. I get paid in cash quite often, and I have seen several of them.

I actually checked the population report for this year and less than 1/2 of 1% of the $100 notes printed that year were star notes. They're definitely an uncommon find. I think star notes are gaining popularity among collectors.

This one will be released back into the wild though.
 

Can't be against the law, eBay would be shut down if that were so.
