the button almost looks like a Tombac but might just be an old flat button.

Looks like a good day to me. I don't find much silver where I live and there aren't any CW relics unfotunately... I don't usually get a lot of time to go hunting during summer but I'm shooting for.. 20 silver this year, low by most standards I know but I can't wait till winter is over... Makes me feel better to be able to look at people's finds though, thanks for sharing!

Not yet. I found a pic of a republic of Texas button that looks a lot like mine. Do any of you guys think it could be one of those?

It does look like the star,It could have Texas association,but I 'think' what you are looking at in the book is a two piece button.I say be careful, and clean her up a little bit more,and see if you can't get a little more detail out of it,maybe some lettering on it?.
