This coin is smaller than a KG or State Copper and a good bit thicker. It's slightly larger than a quarter. Found deep at a colonial site where I've pulled a variety of colonial and post-colonial coppers. It's pretty much a slick willy, although there's a hint of a right-facing bust and some lettering along the sides. It doesn't appear there was lettering above the head. Any ideas what it could be? The smaller size has me stumped.

Hi; Not 100% sure but I believe you have 3 either Connecticut or Vermont Large Cents there. Awesome finds. HH. PEACE:RONB

If blank on the other side, not sure there's anywhere to go. Keep in mind most George counterfeits are under weight, and can also be lower in diameter too.

Sorry, I'm referring to the toasted coin in the lower left. I was just showing the KG and the Vermont Copper for comparison. It is considerably smaller, and a bit thicker than those, even in its toasted state. Yeah, the back is blank. Oh well

The bust looks similar to a George III, but there's so many possibilities that exist without a little more it's likely a non starter for ID, unfortunately. Seeing one letter can often go a long way, at least in making a good guess.

It does look similar to a George III. Here's a side by side. So much smaller though. Bad counterfeit if that's what it is. Not a single letter unfortunately. Resigned to the little box with the other slicks!

I would say it probably is something else, but if it's an oddball there's a ton of possibilities.

My vote is some oddball coin / counterfeit or KGIII Hibernia... In your photo, it's possible I'm seeing the neckline is the same and maybe you can see a curl of hair at the bottom? 820783096_o.webp

I agree, and feel stupid that didn't come to mind as I sat here and looked at it and swore it seemed familiar. And not that it means much, but I have seen small diameter Hibernia halfpennies, one that comes to mind that was more like Farthing size... but was a non regal date for a Farthing, (and maybe and impossible date-bust combination, so almost certainly was an undersized halfpenny.

And BTW... just a general comment I should have made earlier... but it's actually quite obvious a die was striking a planchet that was too small when you look at the size of the bust in proportion to the coin. So personally I would call this solved with the Hibernia suggestion.

Small diameter Hibernia half penny it is. You guys are good. Thanks. I'd never found a Hibernia. That sharp neck line is pretty distinctive.

I'm pretty sure I have one that's at least as small, maybe smaller... and would post it except for the fact it would probably be harder to find right now than it was the first time. (mixed with a lot of coppers)

Glad to be of assistance... By the way, Iron Patch... maybe you should just assume every unknown is a KGIII Hibernia at this point because this is the 2nd time you missed that same type of coin (haha... just having fun with you, but it's true!)
