Am now Doing Electrolysis Very Sparingly.

Was Hoping for Civil war Era,

But so Far....

can anyone confirm age as c.1870's - 90's

The construction seems to be correct for that period. If you continue having good luck with your cleaning, try and read the backmark and we may be able to date it a little closer.

All my book says is that it is post civil war.

Final Restoration/cleaning of Former Unknown Button

Button Soaked in Cap filed with WD40 for 24 Hours or more, Then short 15 Minutes or Less Spurts of Electrolysis
Followed by using a tooth Brush & My thumbnail between & a couple more WD40 Soaks

Electrolysis mix, Baking Soda, Spring Water & 5.3V Cell Phone charger.

* Warning Don't try this if your button still has obvious Plating

That button cleaned up amazingly well, I've never tried soaking relics in WD40. :icon_scratch:
I'd likely have chosen to tumble the snot out of it and hope for the best! :laughing7:

this button is going to a historical society.
My nephew is a Member of a Society who is getting us sites to hunt,
under the grounds we make donations.
as their Centennial is Coming up.
Being this was my Best find of the day historically speaking,
I wanted to at least try to make it presentable .
