Detecting around a reservoir that currently has the water level lowered so they can do repairs to the dam. Told by a couple of people that there are colonial relics in the area. Struck out the first two days, but pulled a big copper coin today. Really toasted from being under water for almost 200 years (reservoir was created in the 1830's). Obverse is legible, but the reverse is almost slick. At first, I was positive it was a KG II, but it does look a little like a King Charles II (1670's). If so, it would be my oldest coin by about 50 years! Take your best guess and let me know, Majority rules!

Nice coin and good to have positive ID. I really like the old British coppers we find in North America, probably since I have found quite a few. Most of them are very worn and lots are a challenge to ID. Some are impossible.

Thanks Crusader! Your eyes must be better than mine!
Just used to seeing part letters in the places they should be, plus the head is clearly Geo II, even if you saw no partial letters at all.
