To all:
Found one more pipe, a Monkey face for the collection last Saturday (Top right). It was a very hot day and I was only able to dig from 10:00 AM 4:00 PM (108 in the shade) till I wimped out and left for home. Still felt like I hit a home run with the ?hole? face pipe, three eagle buttons, two 54 cal mini balls, several round balls, a few brass open face buckles and some other scraps I have not ID'ed.
If you look close some of the pipes are images of past Presidents. Fillmore. Frank Perce, Henry Clay (a past politician) some dragoons, a queens face (I dropped it), one with a crown on the side and an anchor on the other side (anchor not shown), an eagle on the front (head gone) and others. Seems the pipes were all tossed due to broken stems or broken bowls.
I have found about 50 other pipes altogether, most with out faces. I plan on making a display of some of them soon. I will post more of them at a later time.
The pipes are from a US Army camp from the 1850's. I have found some information on the Internet concerning clay pipes but was wondering if any one knows of a site that gives specific examples made, by who and the times they were made?
The site is on my ranch so I can take my time and go slooow. Just wanted to show some of them off.
Keep on digging.
