To big for a ring

I found this ring at an old cellar hole. Its just a bit bigger then a U.S. quarter. It has engravings on it.
Actually more like relief punches from the inside that makes the outside protrude with the design. The design is "x" and flowers repeated all the way around the ring. It cant be a ring for a finger but maybe it belonged to something else?

Could very well have been a ring inset on an umbrella handle or walking cane or something of similar nature. From style, early 1900's.

I don't think it's too big to be a finger ring. Might even fit one of my "pudgys", and I've seen people with Fat... err... bigger hands than mine.
