Titan 3000DX made by "Bounty Hunter"

I have just ordered a Titan 3000DX with the larger 10" coil as an option.
Hanging out for its delivery.

The radio shack 3300 seems to be an earlier version of the Titan

Not a lot of Information on the Titan 300DX on the net and I wonder if any one has had any experience with it.
I see the specs on the Fisher F4 are the same apart from the coils.

Would be most interested to hear any comments.

Re: Titan 3000DX made by "Bounty Hunter"

I like the Titan and feel it was one of the machines that really benefited from First Texas improvement program. (My opinion only based on some of the things posted with the Radio shack units that are no problem with the Titan )
That said your Titan is not internally the same as the F4, it shares the housing and screen.
I would not start out with the 10 inch coil if you are new to detecting, get your feet wet with the stock 8 inch coil and get the hang of pin pointing your target.
When you turn it on the Sensitivity will show in the mid graph, I'd leave it there till you have some time on the machine.
Good luck and ask if you need help.

I have had my 3000XD for about 4 months now. I also bought this unit with the optional 10" coil. I have found that the 10" coil is great for relic hunting, however, I switch to the 4" coil when hunting for coins.

Re: Titan 3000DX made by "Bounty Hunter"

Bought mine in May 2005 and I love it! At first it was hard to get used to, also because I was new to detecting, but have since mastered it (well close). There are always questionable hits. I found a sterling silver ring that rang between pennie-dime-quarter, but was also in an area where there was a lot of trash. The newer copper coated pennies ring 'penny', but the older pennies ring sometimes between penny-dime. The numbers are in the 80's, where they are 90's with a dime. I always try to hunt on discrimination, but if I think it is a good hit, I will take it to the all metal mode, and if it rings low iron numbers, leave it (unless you are relic hunting), but if it gives the same hit, then I dig. Usually if it rings over 185 or so, then it is ground balance (it'll bounce). Especially if it rings 199. I usually keep the ground balance preset. Of course, tho, other things ring in over and above nickel. (I.E.) Canning jar lids ring in as quarter...those you dig hoping there is a cache beneath!!! (L.O.L.!) I found a .925 silver bracelet that rang strong dime. An axehead that bounced a bit a little higher on the scale. Strange, but 10 pennieweight nails ring dime sometimes. The angle of the object in the ground also determines it's ring. Quarters on their edge will bounce a little also. Gold rings in the same as nickel/poptabs so I dig all those hits.

The only thing I have trouble pinpointing are the newer pennies, and I don't know why. They usually end up on the perimeter of the hole. Also surface coins make it go wild! When I think something is there, I lift the machine off the ground and bring it down slowly, then it will ring in nice, then pinpoint off the ground. Hubby and I brought up 2 silver quarters at about 10" in our yard.

Recently, I was detecting a local fairgrounds, and TRASH EVERYWHERE, so I lowered the sensitivity a bit, but then it won't detect as deep. I was coming up with clad about 4" at most.

Of all things...when we went to FL in Jan. and beach hunted, condom wrappers rang in at 24...in the GOLD range....hahahahahah! Same as nickel/poptab.

Feel free to em with any questions and I will do the best I can to help you out!

Re: Titan 3000DX made by "Bounty Hunter"

Hi

Thanks for the answers to my question regarding the Titan 3000DX.

I am in Australia and purchased my detector from KellyCo in Florida. The range of detectors available here is limited and not being such a huge hobby as detecting is in the States are also not discounted to the same extent. In our local detecting magazine most of the articles are on gold, with the Minelab top end models being the unit of choice.
I live on the coast and an hour up into the high country can be in an old gold mining area.
The reason for buying this my first detector is to primarily hit the beaches and old townships. Later I hope to give the gold detecting a go but this might require another type of detector.

I wonder if I could ask a few questions?

I have had my detector for only a couple of days and have been out only once to try it out. The rest of the time I have been playing with it around the house. Our coinage is different from the USA and as such the ID's differ. In my one foray out I succeeded in finding some bottle tops and a ring tab so must be doing something right.

My problem seems to be in getting Ground balance correct. The manual is somewhat sparse and it indicates that you need to GB if you are going to use pinpoint mode. Does this mean that in all metal or discriminate mode you are using automatic ground balancing and do not need to ground balance?
The review of the unit on the KellyCo site says " the GB adjustment controls GB for both the All metal and Discriminate modes"
It is not clear to me what the preset position means. Is this an auto position for all metal and Disc. or zero on th GB scale?
Is there an auto ground balance available for other than pinpoint?

I follow the manual and ground balance in pinpoint mode and seem to obtain a silent coil half an inch off the ground. Do I always need to start in preset mode to do this or can I do it up the scale?
That is in retuning can I make a fine adjustment to GB without going back to preset and undertaking the entire procedure. This probably sounds simple and may be my misunderstanding the total concept.
I do get false high tones on occasions and this may be as suggested in the manual over adjusted GB.
This is why I want some confidence I am getting my initial GB correct.

Sorry for the questions which must seem basic but I am as mentioned a beginner.

I welcome your replies either as a post or via email

I am off to a local country horse racing track this afternoon to try my luck there so will let you know my progress.

Kind Regards
Ken
