WESTERN MASS
I'll try to make a long story short. :D We had to clean the basement at work , for environmetal purposes. Steam clean, seal, paint............well that means taking many years worth of.........hmmm.....STUFF that's the word! ::) out of the basement.

Talk about pack rats? Out comes this monstrosity of a.......machine? :-\ I know it's old, So I'm checking it out, what the heck is a tire deskidder? I'm asking around, looking on line......Quote :tongue3: "I was calling ???? to see if he wanted this pipe bender." :-X :D

I was thinking it was used in conjunction to re-threading a tire? But our 62 year old Tech says you had to have an oven type unit to re-thread?

So folks any idea? I typed in tire reskidder and got nothing! Oh, they want me to take it home, treasure you know. :D

Early 50s, never seen one before and this one looks labor intensive.

I still do some sipe work for a buddy who races clay oval, not much fun.

To answer the question of retreading in your first post, they do make a tool to cut new
treads in tires, not recommended for radials but used often with bias ply tires.

Recapping a tire on the other hand, is done with the aid of an oven type device, i have heard of cold
recapping but never seen it done or the end product result.

Always hated recap tires, most of the shredded rubber tires you see on our freeways is from semi tires
that had been recapped.

Hmmmmm? There is a disc type thing on the sisde looks like a small skill saw balde, could that have been the part that cut a new tread in the tire? Sounds dangerous safety wise?

You might consider placing this in a local race-car auction, saw one guy purchase a cardboard standee of
YODA at the last one i was at....for a little over $300, so anything is possible. ;D

I was going to say possibly a tire siper. Here in snow country we have our tires siped. This is similar to regrooving although it is done to brand new tires. It grooves tiny cuts into the cleats.images.jpg Just an idea.images.jpg This is a modern version.

Ebay? For a anchor to hang flowers off of.....PERRRRRRRRRRRFECT! :D

Hmmmmm, race auction? Maybe Johnson will buy it! :D Now if they had to re-tread the tires on the pit stop? That would change the odds some!

Ferrous, where the heck do you live? We get snow, but I'd still throw this thing away! Maybe you could use it?

Looks to me like you'd cut away the bad tread to make a smooth base and add hot rubber in strips just like any other recap. Between that step and the actual new tread being applied you would use this machine. The knurled cylinder would score the hot rubber base to accept the new tread more readily.

I live in the Wood River Valley. Home of Sun Valley Ski Resort. No thanks, that machine looks like tooooo much work. I just go to the tire store and have em done.
