Tips on getting my first Permission???????

Z, it's a roll of the dice, door-knocking can be difficult, yet it's usually the only way to gain access to said premises..some are much better than others, Tabman for example, has very good success, and has related a lit of his success to just talking to the property owner and then moving on to asking permission...I for one, wait until I see people outside. I stop and talk to them, at least at this point they're not eating supper, napping or giving the dog an enema..I ALWAYS compliment them on their beautiful house/farm/property and tell them what I do. If and when getting permission, I tell them that along with DETECTING, there's also the RECOVERY part, so they're not shocked when I bust out the digger. I always tell them that I've perfected the recovery process in such a manner that they'll never know I was there. I carry cards, and give them one, that seems to gain some confidence, that I'm serious about the hobby and care about what I do and how I do it. Yard sales, garage sales and of course, barn sales...I will buy something cheap and not beat them down on the 50 cent asking price and then talk to them about coming back to detect...I have very good luck with that...Z I hope any of this helps! Good luck, post your results! Ddf

Coming from Loco...who simply sez "Uhh yea...I'll be digging in your yard and I'm sure you don't have a problem with that.."lol...great advice Loco...lots of good advice there...Ddf

It's an uncomfortable feeling to knock on someone's door while hoping they weren't eating or sleeping. I like the idea of asking when spotting them in the yard.
Social activities are a good place to kind of bring up the subject of metal detecting.

It's no different than asking a girl to dance in junior high. The more you do it the easier it gets.

You will never know if you never ask. Once you start asking, then you can refine your approach .....or hang up the detector. Once you look at it from that angle, you will know what you need to do:thumbsup:

Sure, but it hurts a heck of a lot more to be turned down by the elderly owner of the Victorian house on the corner than being told to get lost from that super hot girl you had been crushing on:laughing7:

It been a long time since I graduated from Tilton Northfield high school in Tilton, New Hampshire.
