I figured we could compile a list of tips here to increase bids/buys. I will start:

In auctions use listings that end with 7. Such as $19.97 its a proven fact buyers tend to buy more when the last number is 7.

Use blue in the color of font or background. Blue suggests buying to people, its no coincidence that many retail stores and fast foods are blue.

Use every space available in your title to describe your listing. Adding words like RARE or FREE s/h help generate more views which generate more bids.

I try to end my auctions in the evening, but not on Friday or Saturday.

I like the idea of ending with a 7, will give it a try.

I do not use the word Rare, since my stuff is not rare. Some people use rare or Very hard to find and there are 20 or more listing of the same item.

Many people under estimate the difference great pictures can make. Remember what you're selling is the pic, and doesn't make a bit of difference how great the item looks in person if you aren't representing it that way.

Don't use excessive flowery verbiage in your description. Describe the item straight and to the point.
On vintage items, or memorabilia, any history of the object is a plus in the description.

Also, don't take pictures against a white background.
IP, I agree that quality pics are the most important part of a listing.

Why not against a white background? What color do you suggest? I usually took them in front of white to get more details on the items..

i use a grey background...that way the camrera focuses on the item..also i dont say where i got it...grandmas attic estate sale.etc...

The larger the item the less background probably affects it. If this were the type of item I sold I'd probably do it something like this. I could eliminate my hand with photshop, and do sometimes on more expensive items, but for something worth a few dollars I don't bother. One point to add is take advantage of the gallery pic, usually with something that would get people's attention. The first two would be the type of thing I'd use as the gallery pic. Again this is my first attempt at action figure pics. :) ...not that it's rocket science!

Adding a border can help a gallery pic too. Unfortunately I'm always so short for time I don't have the time to make things quite as good as I would like. But for anyone who only list 10 or 20 items a week you have the time to do it well.

PS: I think the best gallery pic would have been a combination of these... as close as possible but still showing the arms. That's just an example of always trying to find a way to make something better... and even after 10 minutes I already found a way to do it. But I'm not taking anymore pictures of this guy. :)

Whats the gallery exactly do? How did you make the borders?

The gallery pic is your first picture, and what everyone sees when searching. The more attention you can bring to your item the better.

The border is just a feature in most any photoshop program. I used yellow because it matches the dude.

A white background makes the camera focus "gray out" some details if a flash is not used.
Backgrounds that I've found to work well are ivories, tans, grays, and medium blues.
If you use a light blue or green background with brass or gold tone items, it tends to make them look silver.
Hope that helps.

You could always use fishing line and tape to suspend your figure. Much easier to remove in Photoshop.

Not with what I typically do, because the items are small, and the light and angles make a big difference. Plus I'm not too worried about it looking to professional, as long as it looks good.
