Was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for dealing with scumbags who think its ok to destroy other peoples property. Heres Just a brief list of things that have happened in the neighborhood recently:

1) Graffiti on almost any surface near the main streets, people paint their walls only to find the graffiti back the next morning, or within the next couple of days..

2) A entire row of cars at an apartment complex had the windows smashed over night, and of course nobody saw or heard anything!!!!!

3) There are a couple of kids who hide in a large overgrown lot and throw rocks at the cars as the go by. No point in calling the cops by the time they show up the thugs are long gone.

I personally believe its the same group of kids causing all the problems. My questing is how do you deal with people like this when calling the police doesnt do anything? I really hate these kind of people who trash everything in site! >:(

If you can not get them on video, get a few of your larger friends and ambush the punks. Catch them in the act and hold them for the cops.

That is assuming that they are your unarmed variety of punks. Would not want you or your friends to get hurt.

You might ask the local cops to step up the patrols in your area.

3 punks in empty lot attacking cars with rocks maybe causing folks to possibly wreck and messing up stuff huh ?-- watch their escape route (they use it to rapidly "bug out" and get away after their fun --their dumb they will reuse it over and over -- so "booby trap" their escape route ---dig a nice hole--- put a chunk of 2 x 4 --with large nails driven thru it --- cover it with twigs a debris ---- let em attack and "run" right into it as they flee . ---getting hurt takes all the "fun" outta being a punk brat hoodlum. --of course never tell anyone it was you -- this keeps em guessing who was it? --plus no one to sue that way. --counter vandelism 101.

Infrared Trail cameras. I had a problem with some posted signs going missing. Got a friend who's an avid hunter, borrowed three trail cameras and set them up on scene. Had the son of a gun on film a week later. It was an owner of a neighboring property who wanted to dispute the boundaries but didn't want to pay for a survey. Not a problem since I had mine and he was charged with a whole host of crimes. Seems the DEC in NY takes this stuff pretty seriously.

A tip that the punks were going to raid my garage and shop for anything they could steal, I sat inside for several nights, when they appeared about midnight, There was old Bob with shotgun over lap and said HI guys ,looking for problems? quick flash camera and they boogied yelling ,Mr Holtons got a shotgun!!!!!!!!!!!! Cops later saked what I thought I was doing. Showed them the picture, admitted the gun was loaded (dumb not to be) but for show and protection. Word went out that that old bastard would lay for them , and no more trouble. the picture showed the cops who and I went with them to the kids parents.

Good for you Bob...maybe next time they'll think about breaking into something, they'll remember you sitting there with a shotgun.

ProspectingAZ, can you get an officer to patrol the area at night? If not,

I'd say ask Bob if he and his shotgun are available for a weekend.

Back in "the day", you could load some shotgun shells with rock salt, shoot the little b------s in the a-- and solve the problem. Doing that today will get you locked up and sued bigtime for hurting the little monsters.

Since you know the escape route from the vacant lot, if you take a baseball bat and wait at the backend of the route, you can kneecap one of them as they run by then disappear into the night. Wear dark clothing and a dark stocking cap pulled over your face. In today's climate, we have to fight fire with fire (and I hate cliques). These punks only understand pain. The best defense is an a$$kicking offense. If you make their "fun" too painful to keep going, you've beaten them.

My personal philosophy is, if you're willing to die trying to take what's mine; I'm willing to shoot you to keep it. 'nuff said.

A thin cable accrost the escape rout e and raised as they approach running, about knee high, should slow them down. My shotgun is retired. Bob :tongue3:

I was so just thinking the same thing!

Clothes line wire

Under these circumstances & dealing with teenagers, I like the clothesline defense, regardless
of the height. Shotguns are too impersonal, I'd rather feel the punishment being delivered, like
a long hickory stick or a rubber hose filled with sand & duct-taped up, when they walk into that
in the dark, it's highly unlikely they'll come back for more . Just make sure they get a few more
whacks after begging you to stop. Experience is the best teacher.

Night vision goggles, paintball gun, a hiding place within range, and patience. The cops shouldn't have any problem identifying them....

But seriously, catch'em on video. If the cops don't do anything about it, go to the media, or even drop off copies to the people who have been victimized.

Or for something pre-emptive, have rumors spread that some really bad MFer is after them for damaging his property, and he knows where they hang out. (Getting some people to act the part, especially with a lot of shouting that they are coming to get them, should take the fun out of their 'activities'.)

Wow... I posted a problem with kids in my neighborhood just a few seconds ago before I saw this thread.

Keep in mind, schools out, so these kids are now up at all hours of the night.

Personally, I'd rather catch em in the act, with a ski mask on, then beat the royal shiat out of them.
I was talking to the misses about 'my' problem last night, and she said "Well, it's partially your fault". I agreed, and then said, "But, part of the fun for them, is the thrill of knowing they could get caught. You see, it's 'part of the game'".

A game is meant to be won and lost, so they will lose when faced with a better competitor. I'm only playing the game too. If they don't like it, they should have never played in the first place.

Mike, Is it really a game to be victumized which cost everyone in the end. The neighborhood sleeping lighter knowing they could be next. Increased police patrols, if they even show up. The court system that is over booked and releasing these punks on lack of evidence or released because the court thought there was to much vigilante-ism involved.

I would like to take matters into my hands also. But reallity sets in when I know what the laws say about that now days.

No, it's not really a 'game'. Just a figure of speech. In addition, the internet is surely a way to vent someones frustration, whether you actually do it or not.... but, if I saw my neighbor leaving his house with a ski mask on headed to an empty field, I sure as hell didn't see him.

Let's deal with the economic vandals in the White house and CEO's of Detroit and Wall Street also.

If you have a credit card, then your being vandalized every time you use it.

Sorry about this post being a big leap beyond the subject of this thread. I'm focusing on all vandalism
