tiny madison point

found this in a bean field the rows make for a great search pattern, I think its a Madison point, what I was wondering was would they have really hafted a point that small? it wouldn't be much larger than the diameter of the shaft, funny thing is ive found a few even smaller points

Sure they did! What most people think of as "arrowheads" or "spearheads" are usually knives. These smaller dart points were much more aerodynamic than larger points, and used far more often. Atlatl darts gave way to bows and arrows around 1200-1400 years ago, so the dynamics changed a bit when that happened. They also used fire-hardened sticks with sharpened points as both darts and arrows as well, but these are typically only preserved in peat bogs or in protected dry caves. That point you posted would stick something pretty easily. Very nice!
