Not many new posts here this evening figured I would throw one out there. At first I thought this is an animal shoe for a smaller animal. Then we thought maybe some type of heel plate? 20180109_183218.jpg20180109_183240.jpg20180109_183302.jpg

are there nail holes?

In pic #1 you can see a grove or channel in center where holes were, I managed to get a small nail through one of the holes. Very worn on opposite side looks like.

I have seen some pretty heavy duty heel plates people had used on boots and shoes during 1800s and figured its for human or animal. ???

There were also plates to go on the toes of boots and shoes. They were called toe taps. If it is for a boot I would say the shape looks more like a toe?

I have found horse shoes that small for Shetland pony's they were used around here to pull coal cars out of mines back in the older days, and guys would make up very small shoes for them. do you have old mines in your area? yours dos resemble a boot toe more though.

Toe tap or plate I didn't think of that. I have dug lots of the thin copper strips with all the nail holes but this is a first. If it was a toe tap it must of been for child with such small size. No mines in my area. Edit: Now looking at this again it seems awfully small for someones foot to fit into if it was toe tap. Its only 2" wide end to end and 1" 1/2 top of curve to bottom. Iron toe taps on baby shoes? That's what made me think heel because higher heels sometime tapered down got smaller like on Victorian ladies boots you always see them wearing. ???
