So here's the situation. You've just fallen off the john and gotten the idea for the flux capacitor, which you use to pimp out your awesome Delorean. You travel back in time--a fantasy of most MDists--and happen to see a gold coin fall out of a pocket onto a lawn at a party. Here's the dilemma. What on earth would you do in this case? Would you tell the person who dropped the coin--lets say it was a $10 gold piece and the year is 1915. That was a lot of money back then! I'm sure there would at least be a silver dollar reward in it for ya. Would you walk over after the person left and pick the coin up? Or would you hop back in the Delorean and speed "back to the future" to grab your detector, go to the yard and DIG it up? A follow-up poll might be this. What would you do if the land owner didn't grand you permission to hunt the yard in which you knew there was AT LEAST ONE gold coin???!!! (I don't wanna even touch that poll yet...)

I know what you're thinking! NO DETECTORS ALLOWED IN 1915!! DON'T EVEN TRY!! YOU MIGHT CAUSE A PARADOX THAT WOULD RIP THE FABRIC OF SPACE-TIME APART!!!! :o

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

I'd pick it up & Pocket it ;D

Actually I want to go back to 1793
& Relieve Thomas Jefferson of his sack of Freshly Minted
HALF DISMS.

Hey ! Not My Era to worry about Laws in ;)

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

This really is a tough situation I've often thought about. At first I did think about the honesty side of telling the individual they've lost something. I guess I would tell the person they dropped there coin and hope for a silver dollar reward. I would use my time travel abilities on a civil war site....mainly because if I were to say excuse me Johnny reb you lost your whatever I'm running a high risk of getting killed by gun fire etc. And getting killed in 1863 would definitely tear the fabric of time.

Does this make sense? lol HH -JD in WV

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

Well 1915 was a low mintage date...

But I think I would go back 9 years ago and buy Google stock ;D

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

Go to a coin Dealer.

Buy a ton of worn 1917 Pennies
Go back & trade them for Gold coins at the Bank ;)
Don't forget to buy alot of Dime rolls from the bank too.

Especially if you stop in Denver ;)

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

If you had such a machine, you wouldn't have to worry over a single $10.00 piece. Hop in that thing and do some REAL treasure hunting.

If a guy won't let you on his place, just go back to when he didn't own it.

SHEESH!, do I have to tell you guys how to do EVERYTHING? ;D

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

To ease your conscience BB, no you should not tell the person that they dropped the coin. That $10 could have been used that night for a drinking binge after the party in which there might have been an altercation between this individual and someone else that resulted in the death of an entire line of family. How would you feel if your honesty cost the life of the individual and therefore causing his children and grandchildren to have never been born? Now go get your detector, drive to the place where you know the coin was dropped and sit and weep as you realize that it was dropped under what is now an asphalt wal-mart parking lot.

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

On second thought, if you can buy a Delorean you probably don't need the gold.

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

A hundred years ago, people had high standards and morals...

Re: A DELOREAN DILEMMA...

A dropped $10 gold piece and a DeLorean in the same place at the same time =2 losers together .You should have gone back in your Stutz-Bearcat,yelling,'Hubba,hubba!' I actually found that coin in 1953 while digging fishing worms, sorry.

Nice one, jbot! I thought about this after I posted it. It would be nice to go back to a time before the CW sites were parks too :)

Well, I'd probably rig the flux capacitor into my '91 Mercury Tracer, a.k.a. "Treasuremobile," and see if that car could make it to 88 miles per hour in one piece ;D
