Yesterday I picked this up at my local thrift store. Me being a sceptic of things that sound too good to be true; I am unsure if this piece is legit and truly a Tiffany piece. But at $2.95, it was a risk I was happy to take!
I cannot find any other Tiffany paperweights like this online that have the same marks. There is one in their 1837 line is similar in appearance but the marks are different.
What I can tell you now:
It looks silver
Magnets do not stick to it
It weighs 11.5 ounces
Around 3 inches or so (will measure precisely later)

So how can I test this or who can I take it to to find out if it is real or not??
I attached a few pics of mine, and one from the Tiffany website.

That is one of the ones from the 1837 collection. Mine does t have the 1837 stand, date, or T & Co. Stamp. It just says Tiffany& Co. .925 on it??

is it weighted or solid?

It looks very suspect to me. I think it's a knock off. JMHO

What a fantastic score, lets celebrate :occasion14: after we find out if its real or not

Anybody know the best place to have it checked at? Starting to get the itch to drill into it! Lol

Boy I don't know. That mark looks more like the true vintage or older Tiffany silver mark I've seen on the real stuff then that T & CO mark often found and that old style monogram adds to me more in the favor as a genuine article. I would though be more certain if I could look at it personally with a few other folks I think could tell if it was a fake or not. Tiffany is very much so faked allot,so I do understand your suspect of it. The condition is very good and that has me wondering some.

See if Tiffany will check it out with a photo emailed. Many makers do that, but do charge some. If they call it real, good for you. I would at least take it to a scrap buyer of silver just to see if they would buy it for scrap sterling. If it is silver and not plate you'll have that going for you. You don't need to sell to the scrapper, just use his acid and get his appraisal. I do that and never need to buy any testing stuff. I do switch around so they don't get suspect to my scheming of getting a free test, plus I'm more certain of what I have if the scrapper likes it. If its silver he'll want it, but only at his price of the best I've seen 60% of spot value, many offer less then half of spot. If its not silver and by weight, it didn't cost you anything to find that out.

It may very well be a real one, i'm no expert. I hope it is authentic. I just would have expected to see a style number accompanying the other marks on an older item. I did find another one with the same markings that sold on ebay last Jan. for $49.99 with 1 bid. The new ones are $225 so someone got a good deal maybe.
