What do you guys think this might be? Or is it just a chip off of whatever kind of rock :icon_scratch: WP_20140117_018.jpgWP_20140117_014.jpgWP_20140117_006.jpgWP_20140117_011.jpg

Looks like a worked flake or at one time was a small flake knife by the minute flaking along this one edge.

It has had some work done on that one edge, I have to go along with Old digger on the small flake knife. Very good eye and good find:icon_thumleft:

Thanks guys! Tomorrow I'm going to go sift that gravel bar upstream where this was...might be getting closer to where it's feeding into the creek!

Yeah it is worked! Sifting now are we. I havent tried it yet but if the fields dont clean up after that soy I might be doing it as well. Nice find

That's a nice find Peaches....and good luck tomorrow, let us know what happens...:)

Been in the creek yesterday and most of today (we had beautiful semi-warm weather) and didn't find any more flint but did find 4 shards and my first drill, I think, at least it looks like one lol oh and a cobalt Bromo Seltzer bottle unbroken.

I think it is just a flake. I could be wrong though but many times you will see small ripples caused by the shock wave of it being struck off.

looks worked-on. As a primary flake, it has all the earmarks of a thumbnail , scraper/tool - fine, careful work on the final job, in preparing hides - after all - it's in everyman's tool kit! (right?) LOL
Nice one!

That sounds like you had some fun...going to post them? Will you post the bottle to? :) I found something that I'm going to post, it's small, but think maybe it's some kind of cutting tool.....and of course...made of obsidian! lol

If I don't get them posted tonight I will tomorrow, I'm letting the shards dry. Can't wait to see the obsidian tool you found. I wish we had obsidian here, it's so pretty! This guy I work with showed me a point he found in a field in my county that has contact period stuff and it looked either obsidian, jet or black flint and was really pretty.

...it sounds like it is pretty! And speaking of pretty......Thank You again....love'em :) DSCN4612.JPG

So happy you like them! They came from a mine called Poovey garnet mine. The lady who owns the mine is a very good friend and my late husband mined them. I have a couple of buckets of them sitting around, she has some real big ones just laying around in her yard lolol I picked those out for you because you can see the dark red thru the material on the outside layer. I love the shards you sent me and the tiny arrowhead is too tiny to be believed! That green obsidian is so cool too. I'm hoping to get started on a pendant or two tomorrow. Thank you so much!WP_20140118_001.jpg
