Today I went to a local thrift store my dad ran for a while. It takes donations to help the humane society animal shelter here...I was looking through the candlesticks and such and came up with nothing. I decided to check the jewelry showcase even tho they are pretty good at knowing whats what in jewelry. As I was waiting I looked at there odditys showcase on the side of the counter and saw a bag of foriegn coins. Bought for $2.

Contents include:
178? VOC cent
1855 Dutch East Indie
20 German silver 1/2 marks from 1905-1910
7 German 1 marks from 1877-1904
1939 German 2 mark commem for hindenburg
1940 German 1 pfennig
18(55 or 77) spanish 10 centamos
Gut fur 1/2 liter of beer trade token with counterstamp
and alot of Austrian, Netherlands, Mexican, and Canadian coinage

2 dollars well spent! Congrats on a nice find.

nice german silver score very very good buy indeed -- plus the $2 helps critters in need too :icon_thumright:

1939 2 mark --8 grams of .625 silver = or .1607 oz of "pure" silver ( in "fine" list for $2.50) in a old 2000 world coin book ( however at todays silver melt value -of $18 .00 per oz == its worth at least $2.79 :icon_thumright:

the 1905 -1910 1/2 marks are 2.777 grams of .900 silver = or .0803 oz of pure silver --rough $1.40 each worth at $18 per oz -- 20 x $1.40 ==thats $28.00

the 1877 to 1904 1 mark are 5.550 grams of .900 silver = or .1606 oz of silver - about $2.79 each at $18 per oz x 7 = $19.49

so over $50 in silver for $2 no bad at all --sharp eye. :wink:

by the way canadain coinage -- 68 and before dimes. quarters ,halfs and dollars has silver in it * -- 1919 and before is .925 post 1920 its .800 til 67/68 when it went to .500

The canadian coinage was modern, an 80s loonie and a couple pennys. I did get a 58 dime from my work tho.
