Corinth, Illinois It aint on the map! Southern
Detector(s) used
Minelab E-Trac w/sunray probe, Excelerator EQ2 coil
Well i went back to the sidewalks and managed three more silver dimes two 64 rosies and one 61d rosie, and to top it off the teller at the bank had 9 silver half dollars in her tray so i picked them up as well. They are 40%ers but not complaining.. My total for the year is now 88 silvers found with the E-trac, wow i cant believe it. They were all about 6 inches down and one of them i had to kind of tunnel under the side walk to get to. It actually pinpointed about 1 inch under the sidewalk. I have always been apprehensive about hunting sidewalks because i didnt want people bothering me, but since i now have permission from the city and to date no one has even noticed me doing this im going to walk every sidewalk in this town. Thats 7 silvers in about 3 hours of sidewalk hunting, and ive only done 2 blocks....

That's GREAT Corinth! I read about your other sidewalk silver the other day and thought of you when I was detecting last night and saw a sidewalk and headed over there. The rebar was screaming at me so I have to work on that technique lol. Keep em' coming!

Sidewalk hunting is one of my favorites. Hit a place early one morn here in W.N.Carolina.I had gotten up early and traveled an hour and a half. It was daybreak when I started. I was digging my 2nd or 3rd hole when I saw these tires roll up next to me. When I looked up it was a female police officer, "What you doing?" I replied that I was detecting the grass area between the sidewalk and the road. "Oh, we had a call that someone was digging up there front yard" I said, " Yea, a lot of people think this is part of there yard but it actually is the right of way of the city" "She looked up and down the street and said "Your right" "Have a nice day" After she left I stood up with a huge smile on my face with detector raised above my head and did a 360 circle so that whoever called could see me.

Thats funny, Good for you man!! But I'm not sure I could hunt there. Just because I'm sure people would freek out seeing someone digging there. HH

Nice finds!!!

People around here are pretty territorial about grass that they maintain, so I never usually do the parkways unless they are torn up from construction or I have permission to hunt the yard. (Even though when I'm done you can't tell anyone dug there.) I'm glad it works for you! Keep them coming!

I am impressed! As a city dweller I know I'm surrounded by history, but the public parks have been scoured - even the woods and slopes. And I know for a fact that there is a jackhole around here that is leaving his trash on the surface, but that's another story.

Last weekend, in desperation, I tried something similar to what you're doing beside a few industrial buildings. I did score a few wheat cents, but only clad in higher denominations. Maybe I should try a residential neighborhood.

Would you share a bit more about your technique - what neighborhoods you choose, how early do you go out, stuff like that?

I generally go out when i get off work around 2pm, and only hunt the easements until about 4pm. Even though i know i have every right to be there i dont want to upset the natives too much. I never go out on the weekends, only during the week. And i look for old sidewalks, we have sidewalks with dates stamped on them some as early as 1910. If people really take care of an easement i dont bother with them, but the areas i hunt are older parts of town and the yards are not exactly the kind you would see on the cover of a landscaping magazine....I hunt fast as well i dont linger around an area for too long and i hunt there only once then give it a break for a while and then go back a month or so later to see if i missed anything. If you dont mind people looking at you funny it can be very rewarding, you just have to ignore them and act like you know what your doing.
