So, I head out to the park this morning, usually stomping grounds, been good to me. This weekend got my first gold there, a nice 8g. 18k., but I digress... I'm out there this morning and I get these three... (Front-Back,Front-Back,Front-Back) The first two are the size of nickels, the last the size of the quarter. I can't tell what the metal is. So my question is can anyone recognise the markings? and what do you think about using electrolisys to clean 'em? Thanks in advance... I've seen how knowledgeable you folk are.

mile ender, this is only a guess, but I would say they're fancy play money. They seem to be made of pot metal or something like it such as very corroded aluminum. One seems to say "triens" on it, which was the name of an ancient roman coin. Another has a ton of zero's which also seems playmoneyish. Again, just a guess.

Yeah, I was considering the fact it my be play money. Trust me, I'm not getting my hopes up, I'm a realist. I've never seen play money like this before though (but it could be some sort of replica), and it's not a ton of zeros, look closer it the words .?U D'OR - What would you say about using electrolisys?

I think if you used that you might end up disolving the whole thing.

They look like any sort of cleaning would wipe away any detail left :-\

In picture #5 does that say 1283? 1263? 1288? 1268?

Looks like a date; to me at least.

I dont know what they are but try another cleaning method. Start by soaking in water and a toothbrush maybe.

You can try searching playmoney but I dont recall seeing it either. http://www.geocities.com/athens/parthenon/7338/
That's a great little link! Thanks.
I tried soap and soft brush already - didn't really help - the electrolysis has been going on the most deteriorated - we'll see what happens

Here is one of the coins:

French Ecu D'or
NICE! Definitely looks to be the one as listed, appears to be a copy from some sort of set - to bad doesn't give more detail as to composition. Thanks!
That pretty much resolves it reproductions of early french coins from some collection set

Great ID Ironspike. Your getting good at this. :icon_thumright:

The coins may be pewter.

Try to read the outside and google the words. It appears to say COLLECTION DP ??? on the bottom and I also see LE TRES OR DES ROLS DE ??? FRANCE.

It's exactly that (not that I can see it on my coin). And you're correct with the translation (I speak french). But I was unable to dig anything off Google. And good call for the pewter - I'm thinking you might be right.
