This is at least the second one of these I've found. They are made of solid lead and have male threads as if to serve as a plug, but for exactly what has eluded me.
Do any of you recognize it?

I had some old soapstone lab sinks that had lead drain/trap pipe and they had a lead plug like yours in the bottom of the trap.

Steve takes this round! :hello2:

Lead used to be a common material for water pipes to be made of. I could be mistaken, but am pretty sure there are still led pipes burred under many cities today, even though they hopefully are not in use. Lead pipes were also used for waste pipes, which MAY still be used today.

These are lead caps for large black powder containers. Made of lead to avoid sparks.
