This was found in the area where a number of WWI mortar rounds were found.

The item in question is in the first pic - the cone shaped threaded thingy. The second pic has some mortar pieces found a few years ago in the general vicinity.

I have absolutely no idea if they're related - probably not, but it's my only idea since it was a mechanical fuse...? Looks newer though...

Thanks for looking!

Based on size, shape, and the apparent presence of glue residue: broadhead arrow adapter.

I don't know if it could be from the mortars or not, but the thinner end of the top (threaded) pic has left-hand threads. I doubt that glue was used to hold a knob onto a mortar adjustment, but the left-hand threads also make me thing it is not something to do with archery.

Can you provide a larger pic of just the threaded rod and that nut? ...As well as the conditions concerning those two items? (found together? same day? how far apart? etc)

I'm convinced that threaded item is from some sort of knobbed adjustment - just can't think offhand what might have used the left-hand threads.

Granted, I didn't think to look at the thread direction, but, am I missing something here? They look right-handed to me.

It would serve no purpose for the tapered part to be threaded.
